This penguin paintings is depicting a king penguin, with the cool orange patches they have on their cheeks. Penguins are more adept than any other bird on earth to cope with the cold in the Antarctic Circle. The male king penguin incubates an egg for about two months, living off his fat reserves for the entire time. The egg sits on the father’s feet and is carefully covered completely by a fold of skin called a brood patch to protect it from the extreme cold. Meanwhile the female swims around fattening herself up for her long turn, looking after the newly hatched chick. That is extreme parenting.
