Each of these Original Serigraph Prints is created by hand, using a printmaking technique which originated in China over a thousand years ago.
2020 Hand Pulled Serigraph 11 x 15” 28 x 38.5 cm 22 Stencils 60 Edition 6 APs
When I was originally fermenting the idea of this serigraph, in the spring of 2020 with Covid so alarming and new, I originally thought the piece would revolve around Social Distancing. Then there were the very heart breaking and completely unnecessary deaths of George Floyd and Brianna Taylor, among others, and suddenly it became very important to create this black lives matter art work. The whole sheep flock are all the same except that their wool is different colors, white, brown and black. The bucolic scene of sheep in a field is meant to be charming, and peaceful. The only sheep that is not the same as all the others is different, only, because it is standing at a different angle. It’s a perspective thing, if you shift your perspective, you can see that they are really all the same.
We need to be kinder to each other, to treat everyone with respect, and to level the playing field so that everyone has the same chance at a good life. As one of my favorite people, the completely non political Dolly Parton charmingly put it when asked, “Of course Black Lives Matter, you didn’t think our little white asses were the only ones that matter, did you?”
