I have loved horses since I was a small child. I did have Barbie dolls, but they all rode horses beautiful horses, that all had their own names, personalities and of course, their own horse families. Actually drawing horses in my classes at school, to look like I was paying attention and taking notes, was part of the path that eventually led me to becoming an artist.
Horses still appear frequently in my art. This piece is inspired by the dance like rhythm of quarter horses dressage movements. These horses are amazing to watch, they are so powerful, so beautiful, and so graceful. Some of the choreographed moves performed by Lipizzaner and Andalusian horses today, were originally battle moves to drive away enemy soldiers and protect the knight who was riding them. Quarter horses also perform amazing moves which are designed to enhance their ranching skills. This makes them an excellent choices for the dressage ring. Smart horse, good horse, who deserves a carrot.
