Who is in Charge of Wardrobe

Acrylic on Canvas ~ 2007
23 x 46” ~ 59 x 117 cm

The African Savanna is confused. This is a spotted zebra and striped cheetah painting. The zebras and cheetahs have gotten their wardrobes mixed up.

Here I get to use the omnipotent power of the artist, to stir up a little s–t. I have not done the cheetahs or the Zebras any favors. The cheetahs are suddenly going to stick out like a sore thumb, instead of blending into their surroundings. The zebra’s are going to blend into their surroundings, but only until they are standing beside another group of zebras. It is thought that the zebra’s stripes make it difficult for the predators to focus in on one animal, thus increasing an individual’s chance of escape. Also, zebras have a definite bias against “stripe challenged” companions, on the rare occasions when these do occur.
