This is not a self-portrait, but it is an emotional portrait of the inner turmoil of love and relationships. The girl walking in snow, is simultaneously falling in love, and confused about whether this feeling is real. The two trees growing together represent the possibility of long term commitment. The white rabbit painting represents luck, and it is a pair of rabbits because they are a symbol of love. I created this painting when Bruce (my husband), and I first started dating, turns out the feeling was real, and the white rabbits came through for us.
Quite a bit later I decided to revisit this painting, inspired by musicians who often, much later will reinterpret an old song. This was hard, I realized early on, because while a musician still has a copy of the original song, as soon as I added the first new brush stroke to this painting, I no longer had the original artwork. I was revisiting two older paintings at the same time, I would dabble with them a little bit, then put them aside for weeks while I worked on other paintings. It wasn’t until I accepted the possibility that I might just be destroying these paintings that I was able to step back and let the paintings tell me what to do.
