The phrase ‘Globe Trotter’ stuck in my head one day, and I started looking for alternate ways to cast it. In ‘Globe Trotter’ the map of the globe art seemed to be a fitting background for the trotting paint horse whose brown patches are in fact another map of the world.

Globe trotter is actually the parent of my ‘Pandora’s Trojan Horse; Exploring Issues around Climate Change’ series. I actually created eight other paintings and serigraphs featuring ‘Pandora’s Trojan Horse’ before I finally went back and created ‘Globe Trotter’, which may make the parentage confusing for some. I sometimes feel like a passenger in the creation process, creating what needs to be done now, and picking up other ideas later, when there is space and time.

When I originally got the idea for ‘Globe Trotter’, I was brainstorming and trying to figure out if I could make this idea work as a composition. Not all seemingly good ideas can translate through the creative process into a work of art. The phrase ‘Trojan Horse,’ suddenly popped into my head. Humm, I thought, the hidden threat… interesting. This was followed quickly by Greek mythology, then the name Pandora. Pandora was the Greek goddess who opened a jar, inadvertently releasing all of the evils into the world. When she realized what was happening she slammed the lid back on the jar, trapping one last item inside, hope.

‘Pandora’s Trojan Horse’ just clicked into place, as a perfect analogy to what was going on with Global Warming, and Climate Change. Globe trotter was put on a shelf for a couple of years, because I had to move forward with my ‘Pandora’s Trojan Horse’ ideas. Eventually however, I decided that this original kernel from which my series sprang deserved revisiting.
