The phrase ‘Globe Trotter’ got stuck in my head one day, and I started looking for an interesting way to work with the idea of globe art. In this serigraph ‘Globe Trotter’ the globe art worked as a background map. The foreground was going to be a trotting horse, ‘Globe Trotter’. Then I thought if the horse was a paint horse, the pattern on the paint horse could also be a map of the world.
After this initial inspiration, I was brainstorming and trying to figure out if I could make this idea work as a composition. Not all ideas can translate through the creative process into a work of art. The phrase ‘Trojan Horse,’ suddenly popped into my head. Humm, I thought, the hidden threat… interesting. This was followed quickly by Greek mythology, then the name Pandora. Pandora was the Greek goddess who opened a jar, inadvertently releasing all of the evils into the world. When she realized what was happening Pandora slammed the lid back on the jar, trapping one last item inside, hope.
‘Pandora’s Trojan Horse; Exploring Issues around Climate Change’ clicked into place creatively, as a perfect analogy to what was going on with Climate Change. Globe Trotter, the parent and inspiration for my ‘Pandora’s Trojan Horse’ series, was put on a shelf for a couple of years, because I had to move forward with this new series. Eventually however, I decided that this original kernel from which ‘Pandora’s Trojan Horse’ sprang, deserved revisiting.

I actually created eight other paintings and serigraphs featuring ‘Pandora’s Trojan Horse’ series before I finally went back and created ‘Globe Trotter’. This may make the parental line confusing for some. I sometimes feel like a passenger in the creation process, creating what needs to be done now, and picking up other ideas later, when space and time allow.
