This frog art is based on an old fable that says if you put a frog in a pot of boiling water, it will immediately leap out. However if you put the same frog into a pot of water at room temperature, and very gradually bring the pot to a boil, the frog will not try to get out, but will simply stay in the pot as the water heats up.
This is an apt metaphor for the very slow reaction we are having towards our looming Climate Crisis. Attitudes are slowly coming around, it is getting harder for a politician to be taken seriously when they try to explain that two, ‘one in a hundred year storms’ in five years are just normal. The evidence is clear, but whether we are going to stay in the pot for a bit longer, or whether we are going to finally get out of the pot, is still up in the air.
Frogs are such cool little bug eaters, when I am out in nature if I spot a frog, I always stop to watch it. This frog art is an homage to my mosquito eating buddies.
