Many years ago my husband and I watched some Blue Herons on Prince Edward Island. It was quite a remarkable treat. There were a number of them, and they were preening, flying, standing around, and fishing. It was only when they went after a fish that you saw a flash of speed, all of their other movements were graceful and deliberate. It was almost like watching some prehistoric creature.
Last summer they dug up the road in front of our house, so that the city could lay in new infrastructure. I was eating lunch one day, as this huge excavator, just a few yards away from my window, bent it’s head into the swimming pool sized hole, took a large bite of the earth, lifted up it’s head, and turned. Hummm, I thought, very dinosaur like, prehistoric.
