I noticed some birds hanging out on the wires near my house one day, which became the germination point for this blue bird art. When my husband and I lived in the Maritimes I often noticed in the fall, birds descending on any berries left on the trees or bushes. As it got later into the fall the berries would become fermented, and sometimes you would see a bird on a wire, staggering about, or perched at odd angles. Birds have even been seen falling off wires!
I used a blue jay in this piece, instead of a smaller song bird, because the blue bird has such striking markings, and because I have this wonderful thing I like to use, called an artistic license, to make the artwork more interesting. This blue bird art depicts a blue jay from the corvid family of birds which includes crows, ravens, magpies and jays. I love this whole group of birds, and over time they have all appeared in my artwork. This Corvid family group is on the smartest branch of the bird tree. Ravens have even been observed bending a stick to make a hook to get at food. Tool makers, that is one smart bird!
