Black and White Tourists Visit Egypt

Hand Pulled Serigraph ~ 18 stencils

2006 ~ 12 x 19” ~ 30 x 48 cm

Edition 51   Artist Proofs 7

One of my favorite things when visiting tourist spots, is that occasionally you run into a complete stranger, and strike up a conversation, as if you have known each other forever. In this serigraph Zebras, Penguins, and a Dalmatian mix together as an eclectic group of tourists, who randomly meet in front of one of the Egyptian wall murals. I am exploring the opportunity to run into a stranger, and to exchange cultural differences and perspectives, using animals which are all Black and White, and obviously from different continents, in the spectacularly colorful setting of an Egyptian Pyramid. This modern Egyptian art work that I have created, is based on many little vignettes that I have borrowed from different Egyptian murals, as a tribute to this incredible period in human art history. The Hieroglyphs in my serigraph, (these are phonetically based), do contain a pearl of wisdom for anyone who cares to translate them.
