Penguins are amazing creatures who have adapted to living, and raising their chicks in some of the most inhospitable places on the planet. The penguin parents have to take turns swimming from their breeding grounds to the ‘Arctic Polar Front’ to feed themselves, and bring back food for their young. This journey can take 7 to 10 days. This is a juncture where the cold Antarctic water meets the warmer currents coming from the mid-latitudes, and in this area, fish thrive in great numbers. As the climate warms this Arctic Polar Front is moving poleward, which could mean that these already arduous journeys, could eventually become undoable from some of the penguins breeding islands.
